Press Release Summary: Enhanced user interface and software update will provide the most reliable and affordable serial to ethernet conversion.
Press Release Body: UK - Liverpool - FabulaTech today launched COM Port Redirector update version 1.7.1 With minor bug fix, the enhanced version has been successfully tested and is ready for download. The new version represents the most complete and reliable serial to ethernet conversion. COM Port Redirector creates virtual serial ports and redirects all serial data to specified TCP-port of remote IP-address. Any serial communications software can use these virtual COM ports, like typical hardware COM ports to send and receive serial data over a local network or the Internet. COM Port Redirector can be used to pass serial data across a local network or over the Internet using the Telnet protocol (with the COM Port Control protocol specified by RFC 2217) and the raw TCP connection protocol as well. The COM Port Control protocol (RFC 2217) is used also for accessing any serial device attached to a serial device server. "COM Port Redirector can also be used to access remote serial devices connected to serial device servers. COM Port Redirector creates virtual serial port COM3 configured to use IP address of the serial device server and TCP-port corresponding to the specified serial device. When the serial communications application opens COM3, Serial Port Redirector initiates connection to the serial device server.Serial device server accepts the incoming connection and forwards the data stream to the serial device corresponding to the TCP-port of the incoming connection. So, serial communications application accesses the remote serial device via virtual serial port over a local network or the Internet", says Alan Rurke, one of the software developers. Greg Gordon, FabulaTech senior software developer adds: "COM Port Redirector can be used to connect usual serial communications software with TCP/IP software. TCP/IP application is installed on the remote computer and listens on the specified TCP-port. The serial communications application is installed on the local computer and uses virtual serial port COM3 created by Serial Port Redirector. This virtual serial port is configured to use the remote IP address and TCP-port which the TCP/IP application listens on. When the serial communications application opens COM3, Serial Port Redirector initiates connection to specified TCP-port of the remote computer. Remote TCP/IP application accespts incoming connection and now serial communications application exchanges data with the TCP/IP application over a local network or the Internet". The OEM License benefit allows that COM Port Redirector functionality can be easily integrated into any application. So one can create and configure virtual COM ports from one's own application directly. General program's features are: unlimited number of virtual serial ports can be created simultaneously on a single computer, Telnet protocol (RFC-2217) support, raw data transmission support, preset serial port control signals for raw data protocol, fixed COM port settings for virtual COM port, overlapped virtual COM ports support (virtual serial ports can have the same names as existing physical COM ports), broken network connection recovery (auto-reconnect) and many more. COM Port Redirector is developed for WinNT 4.x,WinXP,Windows2000,Windows2003,Windows Vista Starter,Windows Vista Home Basic,Windows Vista Home Premium,Windows Vista Business,Windows Vista Enterprise,Windows Vista Ultimate,Windows Vista Home Basic x64,Windows Vista Home Premium x64,Windows Vista Business x64,Windows Vista Enterprise x64,Windows Vista Ultimate x64 compatible with PnP and WMI technologies, Hyper-Threading technology, VMware and wide variety of TCP/IP-based serial device servers.
